Reflections...
Patient safety is a huge part of our jobs in physical therapy. Our patients often have weakness, lack of stamina and balance deficits. Many cannot ambulate or transfer safely without assistance from a device and/or a person. During my clinical experiences I ensure I use a gait belt and proper guarding techniques during transfers, gait and stair training, balance training and just moving around the gym or facility. I was pleased to receive positive comments from my CIs about the safety precautions I take. My patients trust that I will keep them safe and that is key to them being willing to perform the activities and exercises they need to do in order to progress in therapy.
Below are comments made by my Clinical Instructors from my first and second clinical rotations from the final CPI Evaluation.
1. Safety
CI Final - Joseph Wark
Nadine consistently utilized proper safety techniques with patients with both simple and complex conditions.
1. Safety
CI Final - Amber McNickle
Nadine take
steps to ensure that patient and she remain safe. She utilizes gait belt and
assistive device with patients for safety. She has worked on good body
mechanics with patients and been receptive to cues for corrections when needed.
She asks for assistance when needed to ensure everyone remains safe.
I also included a lab check off from PTA Interventions that shows I was able to safely perform patient transfers.
