For
our portfolio we had to include how we showed leadership during the
Keep Stepping Program. This encompassed our duties and roles when we
worked as a group to create the circuit workout as a group as well as
what we did when in was our turn to lead the session. We had to keep the
session flowing as we lead the warm-up, walking, group circuit
training, cool-down, vitals and then present the group education
powerpoint.
Another
piece of the portfolio was the senior fitness assessment. We had to
discuss which station we ran and how our own patient performed, both
pre- and post-assessment.
We also had to include our HEP for our client. This included evidence based research on how and why we selected the interventions we chose, what goals we selected for the and why, how we progressed our client, how they responded to treatment and whether or not they reached their goals. I learned to pay attention to my client's response to exercise how the changes in her vital signs to know if she needed to slow down or stop an activity. I had to have my instructor come over and assess my client's vitals on more than one occasion. By tracking my client's performance I knew when she was ready to progress in with resistance or level of difficulty.
Below is the rubric for my Keep Stepping Portfolio from PTA Management of Cardiopulmonary & Integumentary Conditions for my second Keep Stepping client.
